What is autism spectrum disorder?

Autism spectrum disorders are a group of clinical conditions characterized by impairments in communication, cognition, perception, motor skills, executive function, and emotional regulation. The spectrum is broad and no two children present exactly the same way.

Researchers are still studying exactly how this works. But growing evidence points to one thing: immune dysfunction and inflammation in the brain play a central role in autism. Elevated levels of inflammatory markers have consistently been found in individuals with autism compared to neurotypical controls.

At its root, the condition involves abnormal protein aggregation in the brain and a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier that normally regulates what enters and exits the central nervous system. When the barrier fails, inflammation follows and neuronal damage accelerates.

The published clinical literature on stem cell therapy for autism is reassuring: no serious adverse effects have been reported in any of the studies published to date nor have any of our patients experienced any. No, there is currently no cure for autism. Stem cell therapy is not a replacement for behavioral, speech, or occupational therapy. It is a biological intervention that targets neuroinflammation and immune dysregulation, which may support improvements in specific areas of functioning.
